Bali awaits an Emirates Air A380 landing in Bali in June of 2023. With a passenger capacity of 600, the Airbus A380 is the largest commercial passenger aircraft in operation.
Quoted in Beritabali.com, the Director-General of Air Transportation, M Kristi Endah Murni, explained that his office and the Airport Authority for Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport are preparing operational elements to ensure a smooth landing and take-off for the Jumbo A380 aircraft. “The two-deck aircraft and the aircraft’s jumbo dimensions demand time and equipment requirements that differ from other aircraft,” Kristi said on Tuesday, 31 January 2023.
The Airport Authority for District IV-Bali (OBU), the airport managers PT Angkasa Pura I, and other related parties are coordinating efforts for the coming flight. Those elements being prepared are ground handling, special air bridges, refueling requirements, customs, immigration, and quarantine (CIQ).
Other specific anticipatory preparations are being implemented to handle the potential for aircraft accidents, aircraft fires, and the emergency handling of passengers in the event of a mishap.
“We must also finalize the readiness of alternative airports in the region able to handle the large passenger loads of an Airbus A380 Aircraft if Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport is suddenly closed,” commented Kristi.
The Director-General of Air Transportation is also preparing a team of surveyors who will directly evaluate the operational readiness and standard operating procedures (SOP) prepared by PT Angkasa Pura I as managers of Bali’s only international airport.
“We have to make sure that all facilities are complete and in place to ensure the safe and conducive handling of the Jumbo Jets operation in Bali,” concluded Kristi.
