TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Director of State Logistics Agency (Bulog) Budi Waseso, stated that the government’s rice reserve stocks (CBP) are more than 600 thousand tons. This amount is said to be sufficient for the upcoming month of Ramadan and Eid.
“The current stock is more than 600 [thousand tons], for the month of Ramadan and Eid, it is quite sufficient,” said Budi Waseso at the Bulog headquarters, Jakarta on Friday, January 20, 2023.
Budi also explained the reason why the current CBP has met the total national ration needs until the month of Eid.
“There is data from BPS [Central Statistics Agency], Ministry of Agriculture, the month of march will be the start of the early harvest. I have stated earlier that the minimal target of 1 million [tons] will be taken in a large portion, if it can reach 2 million [tons], why should it be 1 million [tons]?,” said Budi Waseso.
Budi further stated that if all the 600 thousand tons of CBP were exhausted immediately would not matter at all as the rice harvest in March-June is expected to produce a larger amount.
“So we can absorb 100 percent from within the country. With a large amount, avoid crop failure during later harvest,” said Budi.
Budi also appealed to the masses to pray and hope that there would not be any crop failure. If it indeed happens, nature is not to blame.
