TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) have just updated the data and analyzed the earthquake that occurred on Tuesday, 24 January 2023 at 02:45:01 WIB (Western Indonesian Time).
The Head of BBMKG Region II Tangerang, Hartanto, stated that the Cianjur Regency, West Java and its surroundings were shaken by a tectonic earthquake.
The results of the BMKG analysis show that this current earthquake has a magnitude of 4.3. The epicentre of the quake was located at 6.82 degrees South Latitude and 107.07 degrees East Longitude, or precisely located at a distance of 7 kilometres northwest of Cianjur Regency, West Java, at a depth of 10 kilometres.
“Taking into account the location of the epicentre and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake due to the activity of the Cugenang Fault,” said Hartanto.
Based on the impact described by the BMKG seismic hazard map and reports from the public, the earthquake reached the area of Cikalongkulon, Cipanas, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Warungkondang, and Karangtengah with the Intensity Scale of III-IV MMI.
In Purwakarta the Intensity Scale reaches III MMI, while in South Jakarta, South Tangerang, Bekasi and Depok reach II MMI on the Intensity Scale.
However, until now, there have been no reports of building damage as a result of the earthquake.

Hartanto has requested the resident to remain calm and not be influenced by any false issues.
