TEMPO.CO, Tangerang – The Director General of Immigration Silmy Karim officially reintroduced 10 auto gates at Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s Terminal 2 on Thursday. The operation of the auto gates at Terminal 3 was stopped for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“There are 10 in total with 5 units in the departure and 5 units in the arrival areas,” he said. “We are reintroducing it with new machines that are more modern.”
With these auto gates, air passengers passing the Terminal only need to scan their passports to their intended machine and have their faces scanned with face recognition equipment. This facility which highlights contactless screening is viable for electronic passport and non-electronic passport holders.
Silmy hopes that the reactivation of the auto gates will smoothen the traffic flow of international travelers.
In addition to the automated gating facility, the Director General of Immigration also inaugurated the operation of the Passport Acceleration Service Unit (UP3) located on the fourth floor of the Office Area, International Terminal 3 Parking Building. This service is open every day (Monday-Sunday) from 08:00 to 11:30 WIB.
“This special room for passport acceleration services was opened taking into account the immense public demand for this service, amidst the availability of space at the Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Office that is limited,” said Silmy.
