President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered the Ministry of Defense to orchestrate intelligence information from all agencies. At a meeting of the leadership of the Ministry of Defense on Jan 18, Jokowi asked Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto to coordinate intelligence information from the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), as well as police intelligence and the Attorney General’s Office.
“All of this must be orchestrated so that it becomes solid information. Every information is given to us to develop a policy,” said Jokowi.
When inaugurating the Joint Secretariat of the Gerindra-National Awakening Party (PKB), on Monday, Prabowo said that the authority to orchestrate intelligence information was an order from Jokowi. However, he denied that all of the intelligence agencies would be under the Defense Ministry. “We are only a kind of coordinator, a kind of assessing, that’s all,” he said.
