“The people’s demand, either directly or indirectly, will all be our considerations to elaborate the discussion at the next meeting,” Chairperson of Jakarta DPRD’s Commission B, Ismail, said here on Wednesday.
As a legislator, he fully understands the fears over the ERP policy implementation as it would impact online transportation drivers and freight couriers, he said.
At a mass protest by ojol on Wednesday, the rally’s coordinator, Dani Stefanus, underlined his party’s objections to the policy, which is planned to be enforced at 25 points in the electronic traffic control area (PL2SE).
According to Stefanus, the ERP policy will burden people whose jobs are based on the road.
“The application of ERP to handle traffic congestion is not a solution. We demand this be canceled,” he said.
Meanwhile, in the ERP regulation draft, the cost of two-wheeled vehicles has been set in the range of Rp2 thousand to Rp8,200, and four-wheeled vehicles, Rp5 thousand to Rp19,900. The ERP application can be used from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time every day.
Head of the Jakarta Transportation Office Syafrin Liputo said that according to Law No. 22 of 2019 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, online motorcycle taxi drivers are not excluded from the vehicles that are subject to ERP.
“As per Law No. 22/2019, the exception is only for yellow-plated vehicles, while online transportation vehicles still use black plates,” he said.
In addition to the yellow-plated vehicles, electric bicycles, government operational vehicles, vehicles of the Indonesian Military and National Police (TNI/Polri), vehicles of diplomatic corps of foreign countries, ambulances, hearses, and fire trucks have been excluded from ERP.
On Wednesday, ojol drivers carried out a mass demonstration to oppose the ERP plan in front of the Jakarta DPRD building.
