TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – A video of a mysterious ball of light hovering above the summit of Mount Merapi garnered attention on social platforms on Thursday. This incident, according to reports, took place early on January 26, specifically at 01:24 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
This incident was recorded by the CCTV overseen by the Yogyakarta disaster preparedness guard (Tagana) on the Southwest Side of the volcano. Images who the object, considered to be pretty large in size, slowly turning visually smaller.
The Yogyakarta Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) says another CCTV installed at another post also caught the mysterious ball of light. No earthquake data were recorded during the incident.
“We don’t have the capability to observe celestial bodies like this phenomenon, so we can’t be sure what objects are seen in the video,” said BPPTKG head Agus Budi Santoso on Thursday.
However, he can confirm that Mount Merapi’s volcanic activity is considered to be quite high, such as the effusive eruptions marked by the activity of the growth of the lava dome, the formation of avalanches, and hot cloud avalanches. The volcano’s official status is currently on Alert.
