BKKBN strengthens competence of Family Assistance Team in East Java

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) continues to bolster competence and provide education for the Family Assistance Team (TPK) in East Java to prevent stunting in babies.

“With TPK, we hope we will be able to monitor pregnant women and measure children’s height and weight at integrated health post (posyandu),” head of BKKBN Hasto Wardoyo noted in an official statement received here, Wednesday.

During his working visit to East Java on January 31, Wardoyo said that the Orientation Training of Facilitators (TOF) for TPK was held at the Jember Training Center and was attended by 780 people.

The training was conducted virtually by accessing the zoom meeting link provided by the East Java Province BKKBN Representative Training and Development Division.

Wardoyo stated that the increase in competence aimed at training TPK in measuring children’s growth and development in posyandu.

“When participating in this training, the facilitators will receive education regarding stunting prevention to assisting prospective brides and grooms,” he noted.

He remarked that the BKKBN will discuss with the relevant government regarding the provision of measuring instruments that are according to standards so as to use the data as a basis for providing additional food (PMT).

During his visit, Wardoyo also monitored family planning services at Dr Soebandi Regional Hospital in Jember. He noted that the existence of Hospital Family Planning Services (PKBRS) is a form of support in reducing maternal mortality and infant mortality rates.

“Family Planning (KB) is also effective to prevent stunting. If the birth gap is at least three years, it can also prevent babies from being born with stunting,” he stated.

Meanwhile, BKKBN’s Deputy for Training, Research, and Development, Muhammad Rizal M. Damanik, stated that the training for TPK Orientation facilitators at the East Java Province level was conducted to improve their competence and skills to carry out their duties in their respective work area.

On the same occasion, BKKBN also inaugurated the head of Jember District, Hendy Siswanto, as Foster Father for Stunting Children (BAAS).

In his inauguration speech, Siswanto said his staff would spend a larger amount from the regional budget on stunting management to reduce stunting rates by the end of 2023. He also targeted to make Jember a stunting reduction education center.

“We do not need to be ashamed about the high stunting rate. However, it must become a concern for all parties,” he emphasized.
